The Friends group raises monies to supplement the Dover Library's municipal budget. The group's primary means of fundraising are membership, the annual Holiday House Tour and book sales. The Friends also host one-time special events in support of the Library.
The Friends recently sponsored a tile-project fundraiser to decorate and benefit our library. Look for the colorful tiles as they welcome you to the Children's Room/Lower Level entrance.
Additionally, last March the Friends hosted its first-ever Chili/Soup Off at the Library. Nearly 30 chefs, professional and amateur, competed for the Golden Ladle in three categories. Winners were Petit Robert Bistro (Professional), the children of the CDC (Junior Chef) and a tie between Chris Fiore and Blake Underhill (Amateur).
Funds raised by the Friends help pay for materials, programming and other events and classes at the Library. Enrichment programs like these contribute to the Library's success and continued top ranking status, as does the participation of the community in Library activities.
At the end of year meeting in June 2012, the Friends voted on its FY2013 budget, and that donation to the Library funded:
Library Materials * Books * Audio/Visual Materials * Periodicals * Museum and Activity Passes
Programming * Authors and Issues Series * Children’s Programs (such as the Mandarin Chinese classes) * Young Adult Programs * Movie License
Hospitality * Refreshments for the popular weekly Afternoon Teas and other events
Additionally, the Friends will occasionally fund special projects at the library. In January 2011, the Friends voted to give the Library a gift of $10,000 to help underwrite its recent renovation.
Membership in the Friends is open to all and is renewable annually. Our fiscal year runs July 1 to June 30. All contributions are tax deductible. We also welcome volunteers for one day events and year-long posts. Please join us!
